Honest answers to the questions I get asked most

I would rather tell you the truth about whether a Thermomix suits you than talk you into one. So here are straight answers to the things people actually ask me, including the ones that might put you off.

Why can't I buy a Thermomix in a shop or on Amazon?

Because Vorwerk, who make it, decided a long time ago that they did not want people buying one, using it twice, and leaving it in a cupboard.

It is an expensive machine and it does a lot. Bought off a shelf with no one to show you, most people would use a fraction of it.

So it is sold through advisors instead. You get a person rather than a box. Someone who shows you what it does, answers your questions afterwards, and stays in touch. When you buy through me you join my WhatsApp community, where I share new recipes, new collections and feature updates as they are released. That is the part a shop cannot sell you.

Do I have to buy anything if I book a demo?

No. There is no obligation to buy and no commitment of any kind.

If you love it and want one, wonderful. If you decide it is not for you, that is a completely fine outcome and I would honestly rather you reached it at my cooking experience than after spending £1,349.

Some people come along, enjoy the evening, and buy nothing. Some come along and end up wanting to become an advisor themselves once they see how much fun it is. Both are welcome. Neither is expected.

What actually happens at a demo, and how long does it take?

It is less of a demonstration and more of a cooking experience. I come to your house, we cook real food, and you eat it.

In person: about two hours, start to finish. It runs longer if we get talking, which we usually do.

Online: under an hour, if you would rather see it from your own kitchen first.

You will not sit and watch me. I will ask you to get involved, press the buttons, pour the ingredients, and do the actual cooking. That is the only way to find out whether it feels right in your hands.

Invite whoever you like. If there is someone in your house you would most like to see cooking, bring them.

Where do you do demos, and how far will you travel?

I am based in Burnham, and I cover Windsor, Maidenhead and the surrounding area.

As a rule I will travel up to about an hour. If you are further out, ask anyway, and if I cannot reach you I will help you find someone who can. An online session works from anywhere.

Can I try a Thermomix before I buy one?

Not at home, no. I cannot lend you a machine to keep for a fortnight.

What I can do is put it in your hands during the cooking experience. You use it, not me. That gives you a much better feel for it than watching ever would.

And if you do buy one, you are covered by a 14 day money back guarantee. So you get to use it in your own kitchen, on your own dinners, and if it genuinely is not for you, it goes back.

Is a second-hand TM6 worth buying?

Honestly? For some people, yes. There are plenty around and the core machine does almost everything the TM7 does.

The TM7 has some newer features and I find it more intuitive to use, but I am not going to pretend a TM6 is a bad machine. It is not.

If you are looking at a used one, three things matter:

Know exactly who you are buying from. Meet them, see the machine working.

Sort the ownership transfer through Thermomix directly. This is the step people skip and then regret.

Be careful about counterfeit or reported-stolen machines. Machines that have been reported can be blocked at head office, and a blocked machine will not restart. You would be left with something you cannot use and cannot get repaired.

If you want a second opinion on a listing before you commit, send it to me. I will tell you what I think even though I make nothing from it.

How much does Cookidoo cost after the first year?

Cookidoo is the recipe platform the machine connects to, with tens of thousands of guided recipes on it.

Your first year is included when you buy. After that it is £50 a year in the UK, or €60 in Ireland.

Worth knowing before you buy rather than being surprised by it later.

What warranty does it come with?

Two years as standard.

What happens after I buy one?

This is the bit that matters most and the bit nobody asks about beforehand.

I stay in touch. You join my WhatsApp community, where you will get new recipes, seasonal collections, and a heads up whenever a new feature lands. If you get stuck, you message me, not a call centre.

The machine is only worth the money if you actually use it. Keeping you using it is the job.
